Since its founding in 1982, Chester-le-Street Theatre Group has been bringing amateur dramatics to life in County Durham, creating opportunities for local people to perform, learn, and connect through the shared joy of theatre.
Our History
From the very beginning, the group has called Chester-le-Street Community Centre its home - a place where members rehearse, perform, and welcome audiences from across the region. Historically, we have staged three productions a year: a musical, a play and a pantomime. Though recently, we have chosen to stage two, with our summer production combining all sections of our fantastic members.
While much has changed since 1982, the heart of Chester-le-Street Theatre Group remains the same: a welcoming environment where everyone, whether on stage, backstage, or in the audience, can feel part of something special. Driven by creativity, friendship and a love of performance, the group continues to inspire new generations while honouring the traditions that have shaped its story for over four decades.
